sermon series - why jesus wants us to follow him
Starting on 10th March, we will begin a series of messages exploring "Why Jesus Wants Us To Follow Him". Starting 10th March Over the last month or two, we have been looking at what it means to be the church, and what it means to be New Life Church, Sosua. We spent time talking about loving God, loving each other, and making disciples. I don’t know about you, but for me growing up in church was a chore. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the people in my church, but I felt we were all living a life of “have to” or “should”, instead of “I want to” or “I get to”. We were following a set of rules and when I asked “Why?”, the answer I was given was, “Because the Bible says so”. |
Because of this, living in the “have to” and the “should” made following Jesus a chore. It made it hard for me to tell people about Jesus because, if I were to be honest, I didn’t really believe it myself. I saw people outside of church having a lot more freedom than people inside the church, which made Jesus’ words “I’ve come that you may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10) confusing to me.
Over the coming weeks, we are going to explore the reasons why Jesus wants us to follow Him. As I have been studying this over the last two decades, I have discovered that there are very positive reasons.
Our hope in the series is that by the end, we will leave our lives of “have to” and “should” and move into “want to” and “get to”.
I am excited because I believe that knowing “Why Jesus wants us to follow Him” will change our lives and we will discover life and have it abundantly.
